Introduzione

Le Lingue Lessons è il format che propone lezioni online, veri e propri laboratori didattici dedicati alla letteratura inglese, pensati per favorire un insegnamento dinamico e coinvolgente. Ogni lezione è un’opportunità per esplorare  insieme temi di ampio respiro,  capaci di stimolare pensiero critico e partecipazione. Le lezioni sono tenute da Silvia Chini, docente e formatrice, che cura LitHUB Box, la pagina di materiali didattici dedicati alla letteratura inglese. Silvia Chini è inoltre autrice del testo LitHUB.

Are heroes a thing of the past?

This lesson explores the concept of the “hero” in English literature, questioning whether traditional heroes have become obsolete in contemporary societies. Examining key works from different literary periods—from Beowulf and Shakespearean drama to the novels of the 20th and 21st centuries—we will consider how changes in our society, philosophy and culture have reshaped our understanding of heroism.

TRAVEL WRITING

Travel writing is a literary genre that captures the experiences, observations, and insights of a traveler exploring different places. It blends descriptions, personal reflections, cultural commentary, and storytelling to transport readers to unfamiliar destinations. This lesson will focus on travel writing in English literature from Daniel Defoe to Bill Bryson.

Bringing Shakespeare to the classroom can be both engaging and challenging. His plays explore universal ideas like love, ambition, jealousy, and power, which still resonate with students today. This lesson will focus on creative and innovative ways to bring Shakespeare to life.

WAR POETS

Literature during wars often serves as a powerful reflection of the human experience in times of conflict, capturing the emotional, psychological, and social impact of war. In English literature, war poets are the most famous group of writers but there’s much more related to the topic “war and literatureù”. This lesson will focus on writers and poets that have used literature to resist, remember and understand some of the darkes pages of our history.
